14 WEEKS TO GO!!!

Well the first week of classes was fabulous, especially with the cold. Other then that everything went well because I have started a whole new list of courses for a different major. Back on subject about English this week, blogging, I have never ever really knew what blogging was until now, especially with the minute YouTube video that was shown in class. Blogging seems interesting to me because I can write down my thoughts about class and other subjects. I never knew that Professors actually used blogs as a communication because I always thought of it as a youth thing similar to texting. it was interesting to be introduced to the Professors blog page and it also interesting that we are doing blogs in class so we can have a discussion on the side. Then, for this weeks topic of technologies of writing, I never really knew that Thoreau's family had a pencil manufacturing business which shocked me. Also, the pencil is actually a technology which is odd because the pencil does not seem like a technology because today, we see technology as electronics expensive things, but in reality every thing is technology to make humans have an easier life. With today's technology, I think that in the future we will have robots doing every thing for us and that we wont be doing any labor since we have the robots.

  1. I agree, it is weird thinking about such a simple thing like a pencil as technology. I am still amazed. I sure hope there are robots that can go get my mail, pour me a hot cup of coffee, make me eggs, and bring in the newspaper every morning when I am older!

  2. I also found it weird thinking about pencils and erasers as technology. Those items seem so basic! Maybe future generations with the high tech robots will find it weird that we once considered desktops and laptops as technology.

  3. I think you make a good point when you say that technology is something that makes our lives easier. When you look at it that way, almost everything around us is technology. I'm sure none of us think that running water is a technology, just like pencils. However, life without it would be a lot more difficult...and smelly!

  4. Actually, you might not be too far off with that last comment. In fact, it may be possible for computers to go beyond spell-check and grammar-check by having them write entire literary works for us. Many futurists believe that there will eventually be a technology singularity when the computational power of a computer will surpass that of the human brain. The possibilities of what computers can do will be endless. Check it out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technological_singularity
