Ihde and the WORLD!!
One of the interesting things from the reading is the relationships of how Ihde decribes of the human to the world and the machines. I like how we discussed in class about the relationship of the cane to a blind man because thinking about it, the cane is the only tool for the blind man to experience the world. Actualy thinking about it, there are many tools out there that we the human use without thinking about how it effects our experience with the world. I think that everything that we use are changing our experience with the world. For me, i think one major object would be cars because when cars were introduced, people did not observe the world since cars go by places at a fast paced and before that, people rode horses or walked which they were more observative.

Very interesting observation! Our sense of the world is reduced by cars, because the idea of distance and space are reduced. One doesn't get any experience of a place if they blast through on the highway at 70mph, unlike on a horse, where you would probably trot down the main street. One's reality becomes a smaller series of barely-connected "hubs of experience" instead of a living world.
ReplyDeleteHowever cars allow for faster and easier transportation, thus making it easier to experience places in the world that are far away.
