Technology..Technology..Everything is base on Technology..Technology involves some science too since without science our technology will not improve and back to what we were talking in class, I think that there is not a real definition of what normal science is because there is so many scientist out there with their own specialty.
About the discussion in class, some of them were really interesting especially when Shue was talking about the gun, bullet and person and how it's really the bullet killing a person but we see it as a person killing a person and this is very interesting to me too. Also, about the football Superbowl touchdown too because not thinking about it that it's just a catch but it matters to everyone especially the bets that people made against it. Another example would be some of the laws in the US such as stop signs, we don't need to stop but we still follow what we we're taught to do for the safety of the people. A lot of things out there can be viewed in different angles and people can have different perspective on them too.

I agree first of all that it was a really cold week, but it was beautiful this weekend! :)
ReplyDeleteSecond, Ialso agree that it is hard to define normal science when there are so many specialities and with all the new technology and areas of study, it is not as black and white as it use to be.
As far as the touchdown, stop sign, and bullet examples, I think the bottom line lies with our society, culture, government, etc....all these "norms" and rules that we are taught at a young age and never seem to question. I believe that it all has to do with who is responsible. And why do we feel we need to obey. Its a funny concept when you think about it. Unfortunately, many people in our society dont think about these things, they just obey. I think we need to question more!
Since science (some field of it) created basically all the technology we use, it is impossible to separate the two. The two will always grow off of one another.
ReplyDeleteIn agree with Addison's response, new technology helps advance science and vice versa. As far as the norms of society and culture in klightly2009's comment, I agree that we are trying to determine who is responsible, but how we have determined that is telling as well. We tend to trace the bullet to the gun, to the hand of the person who pulled the trigger. However, it takes a court hearing to determine if the person is the person responsible. Sometimes we determine that he or she was acting in self defense, or that he or she was not in mentally stable. Ultimately, we accept the idea that a person was responsible and we stop at the first person who we can trace it to, and then the burden of absolution seems to be on him or her.

ReplyDeleteI think you are right too and I agree with Addison in that they are impossible to separate. Without science, we wouldn't have technology. And without technology, we wouldn't have advances in science.
